Ljubljana

  • Day 01, 11 May: Departure from the States

    Depart from the United States.

    Day 2, 12 May: arrival to Ljubljana Airport – Ptuj, Thu

    Transfer (1 ride) by bus to Ptuj in Slovenia. Meet and greet at the hotel with welcome drink followed by welcome dinner in the hotel or local restaurant. Overnight at hotel. (D)

    Day 3, 13 May: Ptuj, Fri

    Morning conference from 08:00-12:00 (included basic equipment and coffee break (coffee, tea and croissant). Lunch included in the hotel. Visit local family who produce the Kurent costume. Family will present you the history of the costume and the manufacturing. Afterwards, we will continue with a short walking tour of this charming small town including entrance to Ptuj castle and visit a local wine producer (Ptuj Wine cellar or similar) for wine tasting. Enjoy evening at leisure and overnight in Ptuj. (B,L)

    Day 4, 14 May: Ptuj – Maribor, Sat

    After breakfast drive to Maribor for city sightseeing tour and at the end you will board a timber raft. The happy mood onboard will be contributed to by the Splavarski trio (Rafter’s Trio) with their Slovene music and they will also enrich your experience onboard with a Rafter’s Baptism of one of the guests. The program also includes a presentation of river Drava timber rafting in past times, a rafter’s snack, drinks according to the “all you can drink” system and a tasting of traditional rafter’s coffee, which is brewed onboard in the raft’s kitchen just as it was in days of old. During the raft you will have also a light lunch bowl of traditional goulash). Drive to Ptuj for overnight. ( (B, light L)

    Day 5, 15 May: Ptuj – Ljubljana, Sun

    Breakfast at hotel. Morning mass in church in Ptuj (not private). Drive to Ljubljana. We will stop in Kamnik and in local restaurant we will first meet with Dr. Noah Charney, perhaps the most famous American living in Slovenia and author of the book Slovenology, continue with the lunch. Evening sightseeing of lovely Ljubljana, including the historic city center, a funicular ride to the Ljubljana castle. We will explore a mighty medieval fortress. (B,L)

    Day 6, 16 May: Ljubljana, Mon

    Breakfast at hotel. Archive appointments in Ljubljana. Optional archive appointments in Koper and Maribor available. (B)

    Day 7, 17 May: Ljubljana, Tue

    Breakfast at hotel. Archive appointments in Ljubljana. Optional archive appointments in Koper and Maribor available. (B)

    Day 8, 18May: Ljubljana, Wed

    Day 9, 19 May: Ljubljana, Thu

    Breakfast at hotel. Archive appointmentsin Ljubljana. Optional archive appointments in Koper and Maribor available. In the evening “farewell” dinner at local restaurant in Gostilna Belšak on Slavkov dom or similar. (B,D)

    Day 10, 20 May: Ljubljana, Fri

    Day 11, 21 May: depart Ljubljana, Sat

    After breakfast drive (1 ride) to Ljubljana airport for flight back home. (B)
