Day 2: Thursday, September 19, 2024
Arrive in Ljubljana

You will be met at the airport and transferred by bus to Olimje, Slovenia (1 group transfer). Upon arrival, have a welcome drink and dinner at the hotel restaurant before an overnight stay. (D)

Day 3: Friday, September 20, 2024
Prague, Pilsner Brewery to Nuremberg

In the morning, visit the Olimje Monastery with the old pharmacy. We will return by 11 o’clock. Lunch in Olimje included. The rest of the day is free for golf and spa activities. Information about these activities can be found at www.terme-olimia.com. (B, L)

Day 4: Saturday, September 21, 2024
From Olimje to Bled

Around 11 o’clock, leave Olimje towards Bled. First, we will stop in Novo Mesto for lunch. Then, make our way to the Open Air Museum in Šentrupert and tour Kozolci (Hayracks). They are especially prominent in Dolenjska. You will see all types of hayracks when travelling in the region, with perhaps the most beautiful ensembles of hayracks found in the villages of Veliki Orehek and Vinja Vas in the Podgorje area. Stop in Sticna to visit the Cistercian Monastery built in 1136 by Peregrin I, the then patriarch of Aquilea. It was a major cultural and economic center of Slovenia and houses manuscripts written by the monks. Overnight in Bled. (B, L)

Day 5: Sunday, September 22, 2024
Explore Bled

Begin the day with breakfast at the hotel then a sightseeing tour of Bled. Often described as the ‘Image of Paradise’, the Alpine resort town of Bled will enchant you with its emerald-green lake, fairytale-like island, and imposing castle reigning on top of a rocky cliff. A scenic road takes us around the lake and to the medieval castle perched high on a cliff. Built over a thousand years ago, it was once an unconquerable property of the Bishops of Brixen. Today, it attracts visitors with its museum and demonstrations of old crafts and traditions, not to mention the breathtaking view of the surroundings. Our next visit is the small Bled island that we will reach in a typical local wooden boat that we call pletna and visit the church and bell tower. Next, we will enjoy a walk through Vintgar Gorge. (The walk is a duration of 2 hours, and easy to medium. Sport shoes and comfortable clothing are recommended). Overnight in Bled. (B)

Day 6: Monday, September 23, 2024
Bled to Ljubljana

After breakfast at hotel, drive to Soca Valley via Predil pass. Stop for a light lunch before our visit to the WWI Museum in Kobarid. The museum introduces you to a symbolic layout in the entrance hall on the ground floor. There are two maps showing European battlefields in the First World War and the shift of political borders after the end of the war, diverse flags, portraits of soldiers of many ethnicities and gravestones from military cemeteries of the Upper Soca Region. To round out the day, our last stop will be wine tasting at Lisjak homestead in Dutovlje. After arriving in Ljubljana, we will take a short walk to the archives. Overnight in Ljubljana. (B, L, WT)

Breakfast at hotel. Archive appointments (arranged by SGSI) . Tour director at disposal. In the afternoon a sightseeing tour of Ljubljana with a funicular ride to Ljubljana castle. Overnight in Ljubljana. (B)
